DiverticulosisDiverticula are usually a-symptomatic. Rarely unspecific complaints such as flatulence, cramps or stool irregularities may appear.
DiverticulitisIf the one or more diverticula inflame and infect the condition is called diverticulitis. Very often the mucous membrane around the diverticulum is also affected. Approximately 15-25% of patients suffering from diverticula experience an inflammation. The spectrum ranges from uncomplicated inflammation with slight stomach ache to life-threatening conditions. In an acute case of inflammation and infection you will probably suffer from:
- Pain in the left lower abdomen
- Fever
- Blood test indicating an inflammation
